Parent Meeting

Coleman Elementary School is taking proactive steps to support families after the Arkansas Department of Education released eligibility notifications for the Arkansas Literacy Tutoring Grant Program—a state-funded initiative that provides $1,500 in free literacy tutoring to eligible students. This grant is designed to help students who need additional reading support by connecting families with high-quality, state-approved tutors outside of school hours.

Priority Access for 3rd Grade Students

In November, the state released the first round of award letters specifically for 3rd grade students identified as “at risk” on the SY26 K–3 ATLAS Screener. These students have been given priority access to the tutoring funds.

A second round of letters will be shared in mid-December for eligible K–2 students, but only if funding remains. Because the program is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, it is crucial that 3rd-grade families act quickly.

Parent Meeting Scheduled for December 11

To ensure families understand the opportunity and have support navigating the application process, Coleman Elementary will host an informational Parent Meeting:

  • Date: Thursday, December 11, 2025

  • Time: 5:30 PM

  • Location: Coleman Elementary School

  • Address: 4600 W 13th Ave, Pine Bluff, AR 71603

During this meeting, school staff will:

  • Explain how the $1,500 tutoring grant works

  • Review eligibility requirements

  • Assist parents with completing the application

  • Provide guidance on what information parents need to bring

Parents are encouraged to have their student’s ID number along with their own name, phone number, and email address when they attend.

First Come, First Served: Why Attendance Matters

Funding for the program is limited, and once distributed, additional families may be placed on a waiting list. Because 3rd graders receive the earliest access and highest priority, Coleman Elementary strongly encourages eligible families to attend the meeting and apply as soon as possible.

Commitment to Literacy Success

Interim Principal Reginald Forte emphasized the importance of acting quickly, noting that this grant can make a meaningful impact on students’ reading growth.

“Opportunities like this don’t come around often,” Forte shared. “We want every eligible child to receive the support they need, and we are committed to helping our families every step of the way.”
